Turkish Invasion of Northern Syria

Comments Off on Turkish Invasion of Northern Syria

On October 9, 2019, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered an invasion of Northern Syria to attack SDF forces, also known as the Kurds, which are viewed as terrorists by Turkey, but allies by the United States due to them being enemies of ISIS. Three days prior, President Donald J. Trump ordered troops to withdraw from the area, leaving the Kurds to fight by themselves. Viewed as a betrayal by many, President Trump claims that he is tired of endless wars, and he no longer wants to be viewed as the police of the world. Although President Trump angered many, there are many people who support his decision, and view it as a campaign promise to no longer fight in an endless battle.
